Kenya Association of Intellects (KAI) Calls for Justice Reform and Police Transparency Through Public Participation
Nairobi, Kenya — [Date] — The Kenya Association of Intellects (KAI) has reaffirmed its support for justice reforms, police transparency, and stronger public participation as critical foundations for restoring public trust in Kenya’s legal and policing systems.
“Justice must not be hidden behind closed doors. It must be open, participatory, and accountable to the very people it is meant to serve,” said Alfred Gitau Mwaura, Founder of KAI.
KAI notes that despite constitutional guarantees under Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, many citizens—especially the marginalised—still face challenges in accessing justice and holding police accountable. Cases of corruption, abuse of power, and slow justice continue to erode public confidence.
To address these challenges, KAI is calling for:
- Transparent digital platforms to track court cases and police accountability.
- Community forums and participatory dialogues to strengthen citizen voices.
- Legal education and advocacy to empower vulnerable groups.
- Partnerships with government, civil society, and international allies to entrench accountability.
“Kenyans deserve a justice system that is fair, transparent, and accountable. Public participation is not optional—it is a constitutional right and a democratic necessity,” added Mwaura.
KAI pledged to continue championing reforms that ensure justice is not only done but seen to be done, while protecting the voices of youth, women, and marginalised communities.
